Subject: Our project to write for children Date: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 18:34:18 -0500 From: "Win Wenger, Ph.D." This is a preliminary sending, to make sure we have everyone's e-mail addresses correct so we can begin to exchange and coordinate in relation to this project as broadly defined. Our aim is to develop children's literature, in published hardcopy and on the web and with interactive web sites and CD-roms, literature with some point to it. Most notably, with regard to key principles and ideas we deem significant and helpful for children to grow up on. Not only with regard to Project Renaissance and adjacent programs, but General Semantics' path to sanity, and key social insights such as non-0-sum game theory, systems theory, information theory, which children are not likely to encount er in school or even, for the most part, in college but which SHOULD be a major part of their world picture growing up, and part of how they assimilate the rest of their learning. A big task, but we don't have to do it all in one lump. Or at one time. Hopefully, inspiration will strike one of us on one point, another of us on some other point, and that in turn will stimulate further inspirations... We are well short of the point as yet where we can divide labor and assign tasks accordingly. So here is the agenda for this early phase and step one message: 1. Please correct anything needing to be changed in your e-mail address. To confirm that this reached you, please send me back a short message at win@thebestweb.com. If I don't hear from you, I will have to presume this didn't reach you, and have to inaugerate extraordinary measures to find out how to route this to you correctly, so please save me that effort. Thanks. 2. Copy off the above list of addresses into your addressbook function. Replace your name/address in there with mine, so you can at one stroke send to all of us without having to withdraw attention from what you're about to say. 3. Let us now begin to build a little context-- A. Send each other ideas for the project and what we should be doing; B. Send each other examples. 4. Set up a filter or mailbox so these inputs come to you and are kept together easily accessible for your continued convenience. 5. Let me know which of you has difficulty decoding the attached file. If none of you do, things will be easier and faster for me; if 1 or more of you do, I do have a procedure. I fully expect to use that procedure on the file attached below. However, please let me know if you successfully decoded it, before I engage that procedure to get the same file to you as straight e-mail letter text a day or so later. Thank you. Here, in the interests of # 3 B above, is the first such attached file. Tomorrow (Friday ) I expect to be able to send it, and several other files, to you in the alternate form. Thank you for your expressions of insight, idea and interest which have encouraged most or all of us to go ahead with this extremely vital endeavor, a major step toward ensuring a truly human future. --win Part 1.2 Name: !!!!chil.is Type: unspecified type (application/octet-stream) Encoding: base64 FIND OUT what's happening in one of the most exciting listservers on the web!
